The Integrated Selector Module on the Mercedes W205 C-Class controls the electronic gear selector — the column stalk or rotary selector depending on spec. It also holds vehicle-specific data that is matched to the car's other control modules. When the ISM fails or needs replacing, simply fitting a used unit from another car will cause immobiliser lockout, instrument cluster faults or complete no-start.
